What’s the most reliable used car you’ve owned in the UK and why? (8 views)

Hi everyone,

I’m interested to hear about the most reliable used car people have owned in the UK. Reliability is one of the biggest factors when buying a second-hand vehicle, especially when you want something that won’t constantly need repairs.

For me, the most dependable used car I’ve owned was a Toyota Corolla. I bought it with just over 90,000 miles on the clock and expected a few problems, but it turned out to be incredibly reliable. Apart from regular servicing and replacing normal wear-and-tear parts, it never left me stranded or required any major repairs.

I’ve noticed that many Japanese used cars in UK have a reputation for being dependable and affordable to maintain. My experience certainly supports that view.

A few reasons why my Corolla stood out:

Low maintenance and repair costs.

Great fuel economy for everyday driving.

Reliable performance even at higher mileage.

Easily available replacement parts.

Consistently passed MOT tests with minimal work needed.

Of course, a lot depends on how well a vehicle has been looked after by previous owners. A complete service history and evidence of regular maintenance can make a huge difference when buying used.

I’ve also heard plenty of positive feedback about Honda Civics and Mazda3s, but I’d be interested in hearing real-world experiences from other members.

What’s the most reliable used car you’ve owned in the UK, and what made it so dependable? Are there any models you’d recommend—or avoid?
