That awful clunking under the car – driveshaft or something else? (16 views)

I've been dealing with this noise for about two weeks now and it's slowly driving me crazy. It started as a faint vibration when accelerating from a stop, but now it's turned into a proper clunking sound that seems to come from right underneath the middle of my FJ Cruiser whenever I shift between drive and reverse or when I step on the gas after coasting. I crawled under there thinking maybe it was just a loose heat shield or something, but everything looks solid except for a bit of play in the rear driveshaft when I tried to twist it by hand. I'm not super mechanically inclined, but from what I've been reading online it sounds like the u-joints might be on their way out, and I really don't want to risk having the shaft let go while I'm cruising on the highway. A buddy recommended a driveshaft replacement workshop abu dhabi called Al Zaabi Auto Care that apparently deals with this stuff regularly, especially on lifted trucks like mine. I'm hoping it's just the joints and not the whole shaft because I know those can get expensive fast, but at this point I just want the noise gone before it leaves me stranded somewhere. Anyone had similar symptoms and can confirm if this sounds like the driveshaft or maybe something else I should be looking at first?
