First psychiatrist appointment next week. Is there anything I should bring or prepare? (11 views)

I have my first appointment with a psychiatrist scheduled for next week, and while I'm glad I finally made the appointment, I'm not entirely sure how to prepare for it.

I've never seen a psychiatrist before, so I don't know what information is typically helpful during an initial evaluation. I've been dealing with anxiety, poor sleep, and ongoing difficulty concentrating, and I'm worried that once I'm sitting in the office I'll forget important details or leave out things that might be relevant.

I was thinking about writing down some notes beforehand, including when the symptoms started and how they've been affecting my daily life, but I'm not sure if that's something people normally do. I'm also wondering whether it's helpful to bring information about past medical issues, current medications, or anything else that might come up during the discussion.

For those who have already been through a first psychiatric appointment, was there anything you brought that ended up being useful? Looking back, is there anything you wish you had prepared in advance that would have made the appointment more productive?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences. Since this is my first time seeking psychiatric care, I'd like to go in feeling as prepared as possible and avoid overlooking anything important.
