How the Vaal Temple Works in Path of Exile 2

The Vaal Temple in Path of Exile 2 is designed as a semi-customizable dungeon system. Throughout the campaign and endgame, players encounter Vaal Temple entrances that are powered by nearby Vaal crystals. By Path of Exile 2 Currency killing monsters in the surrounding area, players charge these crystals until a portal opens.

Once inside, a console allows you to build your own dungeon layout, selecting rooms, rewards, and modifiers. The system is intended to reward planning and progression over time, with each completed map granting a single charge toward opening the Temple again.

After completing a run, part of the Temple destabilizes. Normally, the game deletes certain rooms to prevent infinite reuse, forcing players to rebuild and re-invest resources. However, the way rooms are connected plays a crucial role-and that's where the exploit came in.

How the Holten Temple Farm Exploit Worked

The core of the Holten farm exploit revolved around room placement and instance resetting.

When rooms are connected in a straight line or stacked into corners, the game struggles to fully wipe them during the destabilization phase-especially if the Temple Architect is left alive. This allows players to trigger only a partial reset, preserving the most profitable rooms.

The real issue emerged in Holten during the Interlude. The Vaal Temple entrance spawned just seconds away from the zone's starting point. Players could:

1. Enter Holten

2. Quickly charge the Temple

3. Run the Vaal Temple

4. Exit and create a new instance

5. Repeat the process almost instantly

This dramatically reduced downtime, allowing players to stack rooms and rerun high-value Temples repeatedly. A fully optimized Vaal Temple already drops a significant amount of currency, but repeatedly doing so in such a short timeframe led to absurd profits-tens or even hundreds of Divine Orbs per hour.

While the exploit has reportedly been fixed, players who already built fully upgraded Temples can still run them, though buy POE 2 Mirror of Kalandra at a slower pace.
